The systemic inequality in our society must be addressed to enable all people to lead healthy, productive, dignified lives—and to build the shared commitment and capacity for transformational change we need to overcome shared challenges such as climate change. Treating people equally will not be an adequate solution in and of itself. Instead, the public and private sectors must re-engineer our systems to be fairer and more just, taking the advantages and disadvantages people are born with into account and acting to level the playing field. This kind of equity action is needed to disconnect opportunity from people’s circumstances at birth, and to make truly equal opportunity, and the prosperity it affords, available to all. WBCSD’s work on equity action will seek to drive clarity and convergence in this space.
